Po_Zu London Sustainable Fashion Rooms

Po_Zu London Sustainable Fashion Rooms

I was recently invited by Cameron from Po-Zu to this talk which took place on Saturday 4th August 2018. This event was part of a series of events for London Sustainable Fashion Rooms at The Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane, which has a very strong vegan influence in this area.

Po-Zu's mission statement for this event was:
"Making sustainable fashion and lifestyle choices is about awareness and creating powerful systemic change. How are consumers, journalists, bloggers doing this and what can you be part of the solution? What does our plant-based economy look like & what is fashions part in this?"⠀

On the panel of this event were Safia Minney, MBE, author, activist, Managing Director of Po_Zu, author SlavetoFash and founder of People Tree, Damien Clarkson, co-founder of Vevolution, Mark Bloom, founder of ethical fashion pioneer, KomodoFashion, Lara Balsam from My Fair Ladle and Zoe Partridge, founder of WeartheWalk, all of which I will be interviewing for my upcoming vlog.

I love going to these kinds of events, not just because I love fashion, but I always find out something new and gain a new perspective on things. For instance, I never really thought about how when we wash our clothes, tiny particles from certain fabrics such as microfibre end up in the Sea and back in our drinking water. This made me want to ensure that I am using more sustainable and organic fabrics which are not going to have such an adverse affect on Sea Life. It also made me change my water filter when I got home to make sure I'm not drinking someone's old microfibre knickers!

Another thing that was brought to my attention was the sustainability and ethical nature of materials such as pinatex. This is a leather like fabric made from waste pineapple leaves. If they aren't used for bags and shoes, they will only go to waste. And using these materials creates more jobs for pineapple farmers. As Lara from My Fair Ladle  mentioned, the fashion industry has done fur, we've done leather and silk. Why not come into the current times and look at using new materials such as pinatex that are not only durable but help with so many different problems we face in todays society. It does good for the planet as well as looks good and is so innovative!

Tere really is so much that the world of sustainable fashion has to offer! I would say that if you are just a bit curious then head down to one of these events to satisfy your curiosity and you will see just how much better it is for you, the animals and the planet to live a sustainable lifestyle

Thanks for reading and keep your eyes and ears peeled for my upcoming vlog!
